Maple Ridge Weekly Update | Jan 12

School Update

To the students and families of MRS,

Frigid temperatures have kept us indoors these past few days which can be difficult for our students. Fortunately, our teachers have many movement break strategies and games to help alleviate the challenge of Blue Days.

It looks like we are set for some record-breaking (of over 20 years) temperatures today and this weekend, which means lots of time indoors. Or, if you feel brave enough, bundle up and head outside and try to catch the MPEMBA Effect in action. (Disclaimer: Adult participation and safety measures required)

We wish you a warm and wonderful weekend.

Kind regards,

MRS Staff

School Council and Parent Society Update

Upcoming Virtual Annual General Meetings – Thursday, January 18, 2024 - 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm

Come join our team!

In January of each year, the School Council and Parent Association hold their Annual General Meetings. It is at this time that we invite parents/guardians to volunteer to join our team to enhance school life for students, teachers, staff and parents by advising, fundraising, hosting events, showing appreciation and building a strong school community. No prior experience is necessary, just a willingness to actively participate and make a positive difference in the lives of our children.

School Council Roles: Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, Key Communicator. (click Here for detailed role descriptions for School Council).

The purpose of School Council is to advise on issues such as school budgets, safety, bussing, technology, and school activities.

Parent Association Roles: President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Fundraising Coordinator, Special Events Coordinator, Casino Coordinator, Fun Lunch Coordinator, Social Media Coordinator (click Here for detailed role descriptions for Parent Association).

The purpose of the Parent Association is to host events and fundraise for the school. This year our Association has gifted over $35,000 in funds to the school to purchase curriculum-enriching activities, services, and materials for the students. Current fundraising initiatives include Casino Volunteering, Healthy Hunger, Cheque Writing-Campaign, Mabel’s Labels, Cobbs Bread and Skip the Depot.

As a parent/guardian of a student attending Maple Ridge School you are automatically considered a member of both the School Council and Parent Society and are welcome to put your name forward for any position as well as vote at the meetings. Positions can be shared between two people, so if you’re unsure about taking on a role yourself, you can find a friend and take the position together as a team. Your involvement is invaluable, and together, we can continue to build a supportive and thriving educational environment for our children.

If you have any questions or would like to volunteer for a position, please send us an email to mapleridgecouncil@gmail.com. You can also visit our school webpage to read our bylaws and previous meeting minutes. https://school.cbe.ab.ca/school/mapleridge/get-involved/pages/default.aspx

Please watch for a meeting link to be sent out by the school next week.

Thank you for considering this important opportunity to contribute to the success of Maple Ridge School!

Sincerely,

Jennifer L. and Nicole S.,

On behalf of Maple Ridge School Council and Maple Ridge Parent Association

Healthy Hunger  At times, students are away on days when they have ordered Healthy Hunger. Due to limited storage capacity, we are unable to keep these meals beyond 24 hrs. If you would like to arrange for picking up an order, we ask that you either call the school (403-777-6280) or send us an email at mapleridge@cbe.ab.ca. Alternatively, you can let us know if you would like us to share this meal with another student who did not order one.
