School Update

To the students and families of MRS,

While the weather was uncooperative and did not allow us to complete the outdoor run portion of our Terry Fox Day, we were proud of the work our Grade 4 students displayed during our assembly. Through student voice we were reminded of the resilience and determination that Terry Fox represented when he attempted his run across Canada.

For families that are looking to donate to the Terry Fox Foundation on behalf of Maple Ridge School, you can do so by clicking here

As a school, we are aiming to complete the outdoor run as a school community on the morning of Wednesday, September 25th.

Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend.

Fire Drill

The safety of all students and staff at Maple Ridge School is of great importance. To that end, we have updated our Emergency Response Protocols to ensure appropriate safety measures for the various situations that may occur and affect our staff and students.

As a school, we must have at least six fire drills each school year and completed our first one yesterday. Our students and staff treat each drill as though it is the real thing, and we are very proud of their performance during those drills. Teachers keep class lists with them during all drills and attendance is taken.

For any of you that are interested, Fire Safety and Prevention explores fire safety equipment and home fire safety.  With most fires occurring at home, it is important to take precautions to protect yourself and your family.

Lifetouch – School Pictures are ready!

To order, log in to your account on mylifetouch.ca or create an account using your student's school ID number.

All families can also log on and order a FREE digital Pictures2Protect Card.

More about the Pictures2Protect program can be found here.

Traffic Safety Reminders

We want to remind our families of some traffic considerations during pick-up and drop-off times as we have noticed some illegal U-turns, and parking too close to the crosswalk, specifically on Mapleton Drive SE. As the safety of our students is of utmost importance, we remind all families to follow the rules of the road. We greatly appreciate your support with this!

MRS School Council & Parent Association

Thank you to those who attended the School Council / Parent Association meeting last night - your contributions are so valuable.

  • Meeting Minutes will be posted to the school website shortly under the Get Involved section.
  • We will need to fill two roles on our school council, starting in January: Secretary and Co-Treasurer. Details about these roles are on the school website, or email us at mapleridgecouncil@gmail.com to connect with the people currently filling these roles.
  • We are looking for 2-3 volunteers to plan a small fundraiser between now and the end of the year. You'll have guidance from our parent/guardian survey results, and the support of council members. Please email us if you'd like more information: mapleridgecouncil@gmail.com

Sept 26 Meet the Teacher Night Food Trucks

  • Trucks will start serving food at 5pm behind the school near the playground.
  • Avatara Pizza food truck has been confirmed and provides gluten-free and dairy-free options. Other food trucks are to be confirmed.
  • Visit our School Council/Parent Association table for a little treat for the kids!
  • This event is rain or shine, and there will be no organized supervision so please keep an eye on your kids while they play.
