School Update

To the students and families of MRS,

Each year, it is our responsibility to ensure all families are aware of our CBE Student Code of Conduct and CBE Progressive Student Discipline regulations as they apply to all of our students. These documents outline the roles and expectations for our students to promote positive and inclusive learning environments, help students to develop empathy and become good citizens both within and outside of the school community, and explain the consequences when a student’s disruptive behavior negatively affects the learning environment.

We also want to take this opportunity to remind families of our Digital Citizenship policy. Digital citizenship is about using technology and participating in digital environments. It is key to helping our students learn to use available technology responsibly in the classroom and beyond. Our school has a Digital Citizenship Plan that is updated annually, addressing how we work to build a community where we live and work together as digital citizens.

We recognize that this blurb is content heavy, and we appreciate everyone taking a moment to ensure they are familiarized with these documents.

We wish everyone a wonderful long weekend.

Rugby Update

Maple Ridge School has been spoiled the past few years by Coach Bre as she volunteers her time to work with our Grade 4 students to help them learn the game of rugby.  We are also including a message below from her:

It’s Coach Bre! I had a wonderful time getting to know the grade 4s at Maple Ridge and teaching them some rugby last week. They all caught onto the sport fairly quickly. It was wonderful to see their skills develop over the 4 days. They were the 1st group of grade 4s to get to a flag rugby game by Friday!

If they are interested in continuing their rugby journey you can find more information at https://www.calgaryrugby.com/rugby or Email Kim at kim@calgaryrugby.com.

The 2025 spring season starts in the beginning of May and concludes the last weekend of June. There are many clubs around the city that you can join.

Thank you, Coach Bre, for this support!

MRS School Council & Parent Association

School Council / Parent Association Meeting is Next Thursday

All parents and guardians are welcome! Please join us virtually on October 17 at 6:30pm to hear from the kindergarten teachers about what they have planned this year. We'll also talk about fundraising efforts in support of our kids' learning experience at Maple Ridge. Watch your email inbox for the invite link from the school.

We met a number of amazing parents/guardians at Meet the Teacher night in September, and some of you expressed an interest in volunteering. If you would like to contact us about upcoming opportunities, please click here

Reach us anytime at mapleridgecouncil@gmail.com. Follow us on Instagram and Facebook

Lunch Supervision Registration

Lunch Supervision – All students who stay for lunch at school need to register for noon supervision. Please log into your MyCBE account online and register for noon supervision. The fee for this service will be added to your account in October. You can pay monthly if you would like. No child is ever denied access to an education in the CBE because of an inability to pay fees. Fee waiver applications can be filled out through your MyCBE/PowerSchool Account.

iLab Materials Needed

We are excited to announce that we are restocking our iLab materials!

iLab projects promote critical thinking skills and encourage students to use design thinking to solve real-world problems.

If you are willing to donate any of the following items, please drop them off at the front door (in the wagon) or send them with your child. We will be accepting donations until further notice.

If you have any questions or think you have something not listed that might be useful to our iLab, please email Mrs. Hildebrand at dthildebrand@cbe.ab.ca.

Thank you in advance for helping us collect these items and support innovation at Maple Ridge!

Fire Drills

Fire drills are a long-standing expectation of everyone who congregates in a setting such as a school. We are required to have a minimum of six fire drills each school year. So far this year we have practiced two fire drills with our second one taking place last Tuesday. Our students and staff treat each drill as though it was the real thing, and we are very proud of their performance during those drills. Teachers keep class lists with them during all drills and attendance is always taken.

Practicing is an opportunity for us to learn so we are prepared for any circumstance that may arise.

Traffic Safety Reminders

We want to remind our families of some traffic considerations during pick-up and drop-off times as we have noticed some illegal U-turns, and parking too close to the crosswalk, specifically on Mapleton Drive SE. As the safety of our students is of utmost importance, we remind all families to follow the rules of the road. We greatly appreciate your support with this.
