School Update 

To the students and families of MRS, 

This week our school was greeted with a beautiful display of Hoar Frost. Hoar frost forms when water vapor in the air freezes on solid surfaces that are below freezing. Icy crystals form immediately, and the ice continues to grow as more water vapor is frozen. What we learned at Maple Ridge is that our trees and chain link fences are the perfect objects for this crystallization. 

On another note, we want to take this opportunity to thank all families that were able to attend parent/teacher conferences. This is an important opportunity for schools to work in partnership with families to ensure we are creating learning environments for our students that allow them to thrive. If you were unavailable to attend a conference, we encourage you to reach out to the classroom teacher to find a time that works to connect.

Students and staff at Maple Ridge have been busy preparing for our upcoming Winter Solstice Celebration on Thursday, December 19th. We strongly encourage parents to attend this celebration of learning event and are sharing that classroom schedule below.

Purdy’s Fundraiser closes on Monday 

Order treats and raise funds to support Maple Ridge School! The fundraiser is only open a few more days, ending on Monday, Dec. 2.  

1. Check out the catalogue and pick out your items.  
2. Click on this link to register to order as part of our fundraiser. Click on the top-right menu button, then "shop online" to place your order.  
3. Items will be available for pickup at the school Dec 19 (if you can’t pick up then, we can make other arrangements)

Volunteers Needed - Winter Solstice (Dec 19)

Communication for Absences    

There are times when changes may occur with a family’s daily schedule, whether it be an absence or a change in the end of day routine; we want to streamline our communication to make it easier for parents and to ensure that valuable information is shared with the right people at the right time.     

For attendance, there are two options:   

• Call Maple Ridge School (403) 777-6280 and press 1 for the absent line to communicate if your child will be absent.    
• E-mail mapleridge@cbe.ab.ca and cc your child’s teacher    

For early/different pick-up routine:     

The day of    

·       Call Maple Ridge School (403) 777-6280 and press “0” to speak with someone directly about the change  

At least a day's notice    

• Call Maple Ridge School (403) 777-6280 and press “0” to speak with someone directly about the change, or    
• E-mail mapleridge@cbe.ab.ca and cc your child’s teacher    

Bussing Communication  

If your child rides the bus and you decide they are not to take the bus home on a particular day, we ask that you do the following:    

• Same day notice - please call the school for confirmation so that we can update our attendance records 403-777-6280    
• At least one day's notice - please email classroom teacher and mapleridge@cbe.ab.ca     

Southland Transportation has an app called MyBusStop. This app allows families to track where their child’s bus is located. For more information, go to MyBusStop.    

In order to register you will need our school bus code and your child’s bus route. The bus code for our school is CBECTA4I4S
