School Update

To the students and families of MRS,

This past week, students and staff at Maple Ridge School proved yet again that students can engage in learning on days when costumes and/or pajamas are worn to school.

We also want to share that all students at Maple Ridge School participated in our first of two practice lockdowns today in partnership with Calgary Police Services. Our staff and students did an excellent job during this practice, and we were proud to hear that our school is adhering to our Emergency Response Plan.

Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend.

Clothing Message –Labeling Items

We continue to collect many articles of clothing in our Lost and Found, and while we may not all appreciate the inevitable, colder weather is on its way. Please encourage your child(ren) to visit the Lost and Found for missing articles of clothing and to remind them to bring them back inside on days when it warms up and they are left outside. We continue to encourage all families to label clothing when possible as we do our best to return these items to the classroom. In some situations, this can become a daily task, and we are unable to keep up with the demand. That said, we remain committed to ensuring items are returned as we know that it is frustrating for families when they go missing.

Lice Prevention

Lice is common in schools, yet it would not be as prevalent if we all do our part to prevent the spread of lice.  We ask for your help in teaching our children not to share anything that comes into contact with hair, like hats, brushes, helmets, hair ties, etc. While CBE, in partnership with AHS, no longer asks students who have lice to stay home, we do ask parents to properly treat lice if they find it, and to report the lice to the school so we can send out classroom-specific messages. Additional questions or concerns can be answered by calling Health Link Alberta at 811.

Extra Snacks for Field Studies

We have been noticing that many of our students are coming back hungry from offsite field studies. We have been supporting these students with healthy snack items from our Parent Association provided options, however, this amount is not a sustainable option. Knowing this, we are requesting our families to please pack extra snacks for the days when their child is on a field study.
