School Update

To the students and families of MRS,

Maple Ridge School was fully immersed in the arts this week as students participated in an exciting week long residency with Trickster Theatre. Throughout the residency, students collaborated to create engaging, science-based performances inspired by their own ideas and learning. These plays explored topics such as magnetism, erosion, life cycles, and electrostatic forces, showcasing both creativity and a deepening understanding of scientific concepts.

We extend our sincere thanks to the Maple Ridge Parent Association for making this meaningful opportunity possible for our students. We are also grateful to the many families who were able to join us for the evening performances and to the many volunteers that made this event possible.

We wish everyone a wonderful Spring Break and look forward to welcoming students back on Monday, March 30th.

Growing Smiles

Happy first day of spring! Everyone is excited for spring, especially the trees, they are re-leaved.

Botany plants lately? Tell us if there is a better way to celebrate spring than with plants? You’re right, there is. Plants that also support MRS! Growing Smiles fundraiser proceeds allow the MRS Parent Association to say yes to requests that the casino proceeds limit. Each plant makes a difference. Thank you for all of your support!

Message from School Council Chair & Parent Association President

I spent the week volunteering at school for the residency with Trickster Theatre and tried to introduce myself to as many wonderful volunteers as I could. It was great to meet all of you and reconnect with those I already knew. Please feel free to reach out anytime and/or attend a meeting to find out about all the fun you could be having with us! -Nandita

Student Led Conferences | Grade 1-4

We would like to thank all our families who took the time to attend Student Led Conferences. It was wonderful to see students share their learning, and we hope you feel proud of their growth and accomplishments. We also hope this experience provided new insights into your child’s learning and offered helpful ideas for how you can continue to support them at home.

Parent and Teacher Conferences | Kindergarten

Thank you to our Kindergarten families who took the time to join us for Parent Teacher Conferences. These conversations are an important opportunity to continue strong connections between home and school, and to share insights into your child’s growth, development, and early learning experiences. We appreciate your partnership and the support you provide at home, as it plays a key role in helping your child feel confident, supported, and excited about their learning journey.

Fun Facts in Science

  • Water might not be wet. This is because most scientists define wetness as a liquid’s ability to maintain contact with a solid surface, meaning that water itself is not wet, but can make other objects wet.
  • A cloud weighs around a million tonnes.
  • Earth’s rotation is changing speed. It's slowing down. This means that, on average, the length of a day increases by around 1.8 seconds per century. 600 million years ago a day lasted just 21 hours.
  • Ants don’t have lungs. They instead breathe through spiracles, nine or ten tiny openings, depending on the species.
  • You don’t lose most of your heat through your head. Your face, head and chest are more sensitive to temperature changes, but this myth isn’t entirely true. Covering any part of the body helps prevent heat loss in the same way.
  • A lightning bolt is five times hotter than the surface of the Sun. The charge carried by a bolt of lightning is so intense that it has a temperature of 30,000°C (54,000°F).
