School Update To the students and families of MRS, Today, our school community came together with great excitement to celebrate Pi Day! Our fantastic Grade 4 MCs kicked things off by explaining that Pi is an irrational number, meaning its decimal form goes on forever without repeating. While many people recognize Pi as 3.14, it represents the mathematical ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter and has been used by mathematicians for nearly 4,000 years. Since March is the third month and today is the 14th, we celebrate Pi Day every year on March 14th. During the assembly, our Grade 2 students shared interesting facts about famous circles, while Grade 3 students presented creative writing pieces inspired by Pi. We also enjoyed a catchy song that highlighted the first 100 digits of Pi. Afterward, selected students had the chance to show off their memory skills by reciting as many digits as they could. One impressive student wowed the crowd by perfectly reciting the first 40 digits! The grand finale brought plenty of laughter as brave staff members volunteered to participate in a pie-in-the-face challenge. A random spinner determined who would get pied and who would do the pieing. As you'll see on our school website, Ms. McNeil was the lucky 'winner' who got pied, courtesy of Ms. Kennedy, who delivered the pie with enthusiasm. As we head into the weekend, we encourage you to ask your child(ren) what they learned about Pi today! Maple Ridge Staff Upcoming Important Dates

Herbs and veggies for your edible garden and indoor options as well. Check out the fundraising website, and look out for a flyer to come home at the end of March. School Council & Parent Association Meetings Please note that there is no meeting in March. While we had hoped to hold our April meeting in person, given the ongoing CUPE Local 40 strike, we will move back to a virtual meeting. Reach us anytime at mapleridgecouncil@gmail.com. Follow us on Instagram and Facebook. March is Nutrition Month – AHS Announcement This year we are encouraging Albertans to eat more vegetables and fruits. Most people are aware that vegetables and fruits are an important part of a healthy eating pattern - they are packed with vitamins, minerals and fibre. Including vegetables and fruits daily may help to reduce your risk of heart disease, stroke and certain types of cancer. Eating vegetables and fruits everyday can sometimes be challenging – in fact, 80% or more of Albertans are not getting enough. Nutrition Month Tip Sheet Nutrition Month Newsletter Cupe Local 40 Strike CUPE Local 40 members have withdrawn their services to the CBE. This union includes school facilities and cleaning staff. Information to families regarding the strike action continues to be communicated centrally by the CBE – not by individual schools.
