School Update
To the students and families of MRS,
With our first full week of January now complete, it has been wonderful to welcome students back into the building. There has been plenty of excitement this week, particularly around our currently empty fish tank, which will soon have a special arrival as part of our partnership with Bow Habitat.
We would also like to share that our Lost and Found has grown quite large. All unclaimed items will be donated to a school in need during the week of January 19. Students are encouraged to check the Lost and Found next week to locate any missing belongings, and teachers have been invited to bring their classes for a visit during this time.
Finally, the 2026–2027 CBE Instructional Calendar has now been finalized and posted. The first day of school for students will be Monday, August 31, 2026. A link to this information is provided here.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend.

Virtual Open House Update (Jan 8)
Maple Ridge School recently hosted a Virtual Open House for new students interested in our program. This event was very well attended and provided families with an overview of the Science Alternative Program, as well as information about the registration and application process for students interested in joining the Maple Ridge community.
For new families who would like an opportunity to visit the school in person, a Self-guided Open House will take place on Wednesday, January 29 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
The PowerPoint presentation from the Virtual Open House will be posted to the school website next week for those who were unable to attend or who wish to revisit the information shared.
Registration packages will be accepted beginning on Monday, January 12, 2026.
Please visit our website for additional details and ongoing updates.
RT Alderman Open House – Jan 29
The following information is provided from RT Alderman as this is the Grade 5 –9 Science Alternative Program that most of our Grade 4 students will attend next year. As a reminder for our Grade 4 families, all students attending Maple Ridge automatically receive a spot at RT Alderman.
- Open House: RT Alderman Open House will take place on Thursday, January 29 from 6:00–7:45 p.m. A presentation on the Science Program will be offered from 6:00–6:45 p.m. Families already familiar with the program may use this time to explore the school. All families will have the opportunity to tour the school from 6:45–7:45 p.m.
- May Scavenger Hunt: In May, students will be invited to participate in an RTA Scavenger Hunt, allowing them to explore the school during a one-hour Friday afternoon visit.
- June School Visit: In June, students will be invited to visit during the school day to meet Grade 5 teachers, connect with the principal, and participate in a field experience.
- Virtual Resource Meetings: For students with more complex needs, families will have the opportunity to meet virtually with a member of the resource team in June.
- August School Tour: Early in the school year, the resource team will offer a school tour for families who may be feeling anxious about the transition.

MRS School Council & Parent Association
We need a School Council Chair / Parent Association President!
As we near our Annual General Meetings on Thursday, January 15, we have not yet had anyone step forward for the Chair/President role. We MUST fill this role to maintain our AGLC license. Without this license we lose our ability to do Casino Fundraisers, which raise over $70,000+ for resources like 3D printers and residencies like inline skating and photography.
Why volunteer for this role?
- Support your child's school and make a real impact
- Develop or strengthen your leadership skills
- Join a great group of parents who work as a team
- Make it your own - the minimum time commitment is only 3 hours in the months we hold a meeting; the rest is up to you!
- No experience necessary - while our current Chair/President is not available to continue in this role, we will be here to provide all the training and support you need to be successful.
We have a keen Vice Chair/President lined up to work alongside you! Please email us at mapleridgecouncil@gmail.com to talk about the role.
