School Update 

To the students and families of MRS, 

With only a couple of weeks left until our Winter Solstice Celebration of Learning on December 19, staff and students have been busy preparing for the big day.  

We strongly encourage parents to attend this celebration of learning event and are sharing schedule below: 

We also want to share that our Spirit Days have been set for the week of December 16th. We are sharing these now as we want to give families as much notice as possible to not have these days cause a morning of scramble.

Upcoming Important Dates 

Open House Information – January 9 

Maple Ridge School will host a Virtual Open House on the evening of Thursday, January 9. The Open House will provide an overview of the Science Alternative Program and the registration/application process for news students who seek to join the Maple Ridge community.  

The PowerPoint presentation will be posted to the school website after January 10, 2025.  Registration packages will be accepted beginning on Monday, January 13, 2025.

Calgary Food Bank Donations 

The Calgary Food Bank is the first line of emergency food support for families and individuals facing crisis. As the city’s main charitable food hub and the most accessible food bank, they have the capacity to serve families, individuals, and organizations to fight hunger. The Calgary Food Bank relies solely on the generous support of the community. To support this worthy cause, Maple Ridge School is collecting non-perishable food items, and these items can be dropped off at the bins near the office.

Volunteers Needed - Winter Solstice (Dec 19)  

We're looking for volunteers to serve treats and distribute the Purdy's chocolate orders on Dec 19 during the school's Winter Solstice event. Click here to sign up for a 1 hour shift, or email us at mapleridgecouncil@gmail.com.  

Thank you to all who participated in our Purdy's fundraiser! We raised over $1,000 for school supports and activities like Winter Solstice and Grade 4 farewell.

Communication for Absences    

There are times when changes may occur with a family’s daily schedule, whether it be an absence or a change in the end of day routine; we want to streamline our communication to make it easier for parents and to ensure that valuable information is shared with the right people at the right time.     

For attendance, there are two options:   

• Call Maple Ridge School (403) 777-6280 and press 1 for the absent line to communicate if your child will be absent.    
• E-mail mapleridge@cbe.ab.ca and cc your child’s teacher    

For early/different pick-up routine:     

The day of    

·       Call Maple Ridge School (403) 777-6280 and press “0” to speak with someone directly about the change  

At least a day's notice

• E-mail mapleridge@cbe.ab.ca and cc your child’s teacher    

Bussing Communication  

If your child rides the bus and you decide they are not to take the bus home on a particular day, we ask that you do the following:    

• Same day notice - please call the school for confirmation so that we can update our attendance records 403-777-6280    
• At least one day's notice - please email classroom teacher and mapleridge@cbe.ab.ca     

Southland Transportation has an app called MyBusStop. This app allows families to track where their child’s bus is located. For more information, go to MyBusStop.    

In order to register you will need our school bus code and your child’s bus route. The bus code for our school is CBECTA4I4S
