School Update

To the students and families of MRS,

One of the most exciting events of our school year took place yesterday. We are happy to share that our fourth annual Science Olympics was a fantastic success for students, staff, and families.

The Science Olympics is a special day that gives all students the chance to take part in fun and meaningful STEM challenges. From launching rockets to making slime, students worked together in mixed cohort teams, each representing one of the Olympic Ring colors, as they explored the design thinking process in hands-on and creative ways.

Our opening ceremony included a visit from Piggie and Gerald. Piggie was determined to fly, and with Gerald’s help and the power of science, she launched into space using a rocket that Gerald had designed. At the end of the day, we gathered for a closing ceremony to enjoy photos of the event and celebrate Piggie’s safe return, which brought smiles and relief to many.

We want to extend a sincere thank you to all the wonderful volunteers who helped make this day possible. Your support, energy, and generosity were truly appreciated.

We hope everyone enjoys a relaxing long weekend, and we look forward to seeing all students again on Tuesday, April 22.

Short Survey - parent/guardian writing presentation

In support of the Maple Ridge School Development Plan goal of improving student achievement in writing, we will use this year's Alberta School Council Engagement (ASCE) Grant to offer a virtual parent/guardian workshop to support our ability to help our kids with writing. Please complete this short survey to let us know if you would be interested in attending, and which times would work best for you. We know the available times won't work for everyone, but we hope we can find a time that works for many of you. Let us know by Tuesday, April 22, so we can get the date booked with the speaker, Angela Stockman.

School Council and Parent Association Meeting

Thank you to all who attended our meeting last night. Meeting Minutes will be available on the school website following the long weekend. Thanks to the grade 3 teachers for your excellent presentation about the learning experience you're creating for your students - we're grateful for all you do.

Reach us anytime at mapleridgecouncil@gmail.com. Follow us on Instagram and Facebook.

RTA Scavenger Hunt – May 2 (1:45pm-2:45pm)

Sent on behalf of R.T. Alderman, we would like to inform all Grade 4 families that RTA is hosting a Welcome to NEW Families Scavenger Hunt on Friday, May 2 from 1:45pm-2:45pm. If you have any further questions regarding this event, please email RTA (rtalderman@cbe.ab.ca)

Families Not Returning - current K– Grade 3 students

Families or individual children who will not be returning to Maple Ridge School for the 2025-2026 school year are requested to let the school know as soon as possible by emailing us mapleridge@cbe.ab.ca. Informing the school of your intentions to transfer will facilitate the smoothest transition possible.

Reminder for Paying Fees

We encourage all families to take a moment to review your myCBE account for any outstanding fee payments. When doing this, please ensure you look at all tabs (top of page) for your students and use the “Fee, Waivers & Service Registration” to access all school-based fees. Your support with this is greatly appreciated.

iLab Donations – Pause for now

A heartfelt thank you to our families for the generous donations of iLab consumable materials—we’ve received an incredible response lately!

At this time, we kindly ask that families pause on bringing in additional items. We’ll be sure to share an update when we’re ready to collect more materials again.

No Parking in Bus Stop Request

We kindly ask families to avoid parking along Mapleton Road in the designated bus zone, as it creates challenges for our 12 school buses during drop-off and pick-up times.

Additionally, we encourage families not to park near the alleyway on Mapleton Drive at the end of the day. This helps ensure our before- and after-care program vans have clear and safe access.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation!
