School Update
To the students and families of MRS,
On March 14th, mathematics enthusiasts from all over the globe celebrate Pi Day and the International Day of Mathematics (IDM). The day aims to raise awareness about the importance of mathematics, its role in shaping our world, and to promote the beauty and relevance of mathematics to a wider audience.
For our students, we are excited for our inaugural Pi Day celebration that will take place on March 14th (3rd Month, 14th date). On this date, students will explore a variety of math-related activities, which includes a school-wide assembly.
We know for some of us, Pi is just a number that we have used to plug into a formula.
If you want to learn a bit more about where this number comes from, and what we will be working on with all students, we suggest you check this video out.
Wishing you a fantastic weekend.

Grade 1-4 Student Led Conferences – March 21 & 22
School Conferences are right around the corner and will be held on March 21st and 22nd. Like last year, we will host families for in-person Student-Led Conferences. These one-hour timeslots will have multiple families attending with a cap of 5 families per hour. Bookings will open on Thursday, March 14th @ 4pm and can be made through MyCBE.
Structure of Student-Led Conference
Student-Led Conferences have been structured to be open and flexible classrooms, where families can wander with their students to discover more about their learning across several disciplines, including literacy, mathematics, and science. These conferences have a flexible nature, and we would like to note the following:
- there will be multiple families in the classroom at one time
- teachers will be available to give guidance about the activities in each class
- we ask that families be mindful of their allotted time
- we ask that the nature of the conversations center around student learning, rather than a traditional parent-teacher interview.
Should you have concerns about your child’s progress, always know that you may contact your child’s teacher if you need more time to have a one-on-one parent/teacher meeting.
Kindergarten Conferences – March 21 & 22
For our kindergarten families, 15 minute school conferences will be offered. These times will include virtual and in-person appointments as we continue to hear that both formats benefit our families.
Bookings will open on Thursday, March 14th @ 4pm and can be made through MyCBE.

School Council and Parent Association Update:
Casino Update:
We are incredibly pleased to share the total funds raised during our November 2023 Casino fundraiser… $80, 843.73
These funds go directly to our Parent Association account to buy curriculum-enriching activities, services, and materials for our kids to use at Maple Ridge School. This amount is separate from the school’s budget.
To the parents who came out to volunteer (some who stayed up all night!) for this critical fundraiser, we cannot thank you enough. Cara P, our fabulous Vice President / Vice Chair, on behalf of all Maple Ridge parents, a huge thank you for making this fundraiser a resounding success.
Healthy Hunger:
Do you have a suggestion for a new Healthy Hunger vendor? Email us!
We are looking for Snack Helpers - if you would like to help, please click here for dates and registration.
Note: If you have clicked the button to volunteer within the Healthy Hunger webpage, this information is unfortunately not making it to us. We are working with Healthy Hunger now to find out why. Please use the link above instead.
School Planning Survey
We recognize that we make better decisions to support student learning when the input of all stakeholders is considered and when we work together. With this understanding, we are asking our families to share their perspective on our School Development Plan, School Budget, and School Fees. The survey will remain open until March 15.
Thank you in advance for taking the time to share your input.
iLab Materials Still Needed
We are excited to announce that we are still restocking our iLab materials! iLab projects promote critical thinking skills and encourage students to use design thinking to solve real-world problems.
If you are willing to donate any of the following items, please drop them off at the front door (in the wagon) or send them with your child. We will be accepting donations until further notice. If you have any questions or think you have something not listed that might be useful to our iLab, please email Mrs. Hildebrand at dthildebrand@cbe.ab.ca.
Thank you in advance for helping us collect these items and support innovation at Maple Ridge!
