School Update

To the students and families of MRS,

This week included much excitement at Maple Ridge School as we celebrated our first annual Pi Day. On this day, all students participated in math-related activities that included an assembly where “pie-ku” poetry was shared (3 syllable, 1 syllable, 4 syllable), and a grade 4 student that was able to recite the first hundred digits of Pi.

We also had a special guest appearance from Piggie and Gerald, characters from a children’s book. During this appearance, they shared their latest idea for a book called “Pie the Principal.” If you are wondering, yes, the principal at Maple Ridge School did get pied!

As we welcome families into our building next week for parent/teacher conferences, we are excited for you to see the kindness chains that are growing throughout the hallways. As a reminder, these chains represent Acts of Kindness, and include the following colors:

  • Blue Chains - Kindness to others
  • Green Chains - Kindness to this place
  • Red Chains - Kindness to self

Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend.

Grade 1-4 Student Led Conferences – March 21 & 22

School Conferences are right around the corner and will be held on March 21st and 22nd. Like last year, we will host families for in-person Student-Led Conferences. These one-hour time slots will have multiple families attending with a cap of 5 families per hour. Booking opened on Thursday, March 14th @ 4pm and can be made through MyCBE.

Structure of Student-Led Conference

Student-Led Conferences have been structured to be open and flexible classrooms, where families can wander with their students to discover more about their learning across several disciplines, including literacy, mathematics, and science. These conferences have a flexible nature, and we would like to note the following:

  • there will be multiple families in the classroom at one time
  • teachers will be available to give guidance about the activities in each class
  • we ask that families be mindful of their allotted time
  • we ask that the nature of the conversations center around student learning, rather than a traditional parent-teacher interview.

Should you have concerns about your child’s progress, always know that you may contact your child’s teacher if you need more time to have a one-on-one parent/teacher meeting.

Kindergarten Conferences – March 21 & 22

For our kindergarten families, 15-minute school conferences will be offered. These times will include virtual and in-person appointments as we continue to hear that both formats benefit our families.
